IN BRIEF
A memorial service will be held for Costa Mesa’s beloved Nathan Reade
at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 Saint Andrews
Road, Newport Beach.
Reade died Dec. 18 in his bed of congestive heart failure. He was 78.
He was deeply involved in Costa Mesa since he helped incorporate the
city in 1953 as part of the Home Rule Group.
Reade served as the executive director of the Costa Mesa Chamber of
Commerce for 20 years, and as the assistant director for six or seven
years prior to that, said his daughter Susan Reade.
He served on the Costa Mesa Planning Commission, and was on the Mesa
Consolidated Water District board and the Costa Mesa Sanitary District
board for eight years each. He was known for giving much of his time to
numerous nonprofit groups in the community.
