Surf-City Smackers roll to pair of victories

The Surf-City Smackers continued its successful season last weekend

by rolling to a pair of AYSO girls’ Under-10 Division league playoff

victories at Peterson School in Huntington Beach.

The Smackers (Region 143) began the day Saturday with a 5-0 spanking

of Region 117. The shutout was recorded by goalies Allison Dufault and

Breanna Flynn, with Andrea Gonzalez, Jenna Minton, Brittany Fuller, Katie

Brewster, Liz Novotny, Missy Murphy, Allysa Jones and Haley Lorenz

leading the defensive charge.

Amy Nunez earned a hat trick with three goals, and Lindsay Mangan

scored the other two.

The Smackers followed that win with a 3-1 decision over Region 5. Amy

Nunez, who scored in the third quarter to give the team a 1-0 lead,

scored two more goals in the fourth period to break a 1-1 tie, completing

her second hat trick of the day.

The two victories allowed the Surf-City Smackers to remain tied for

first place in the standings with three matches remaining, two of which

will be played Saturday at Peterson School.
