Residents with weight-loss resolutions for 2001 may want to go to boot

camp to take off the pounds.

The Optimum Boot Camp, founded by six-year Marine Corps veteran

Raphael Verela, will feature instruction in kick-boxing, aerobics,

flexibility, group runs and a military-style obstacle course.

Unlike some fitness programs, the 90-minute boot camp courses are held

outside, along the beach at the end of Main Street. Classes take place at

6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

New water district directors sworn in

Seven Orange County residents were sworn in as directors of the newly

consolidated Municipal Water District of Orange County.

Taking the oath of office were Brett R. Barbre, Larry D. Dick, Wayne

A. Clark, Ed Royce Sr., Erick Bakall, Joan Finnegan and Susan Hinman.

Administering the oath was Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton), son of water

district director Ed Royce Sr.

The new directors will officially take their seats at a board meeting

Wednesday.

Public hearing set on school unification

The Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees will hold a

public hearing next week to continue discussion of the district’s

exploration into reorganizing into a unified school district.

The board of trustees responded in November to ongoing community

interest by launching an exploration into reorganizing the district’s

current kindergarten through eighth-grade configuration into a

kindergarten through 12th-grade unified district.

The community is welcome to attend. The board will not make any final

actions at the meeting. The hearing is intended to provide the community

an opportunity to learn more about the effort and questions. Each speaker

will be given four minutes to make comments.

The hearing is scheduled for 8 p.m. Jan. 18 in the board room at 17210

Oak St., Fountain Valley.

Applicants sought for city committees

The city of Fountain Valley is accepting applications from people

interested in serving on the following commissions and committees:

* Planning Commission, which makes recommendations to the City Council

on planning and zoning issues,

* Community Services Commission, which formulates and recommends

policies on recreation services for the City Council,

* Traffic Committee, which assists in preparing and publishing traffic

reports and reviews complaints about traffic matters,

* Housing and Community Development Committee, which reviews the

city’s federal Community Block Grant Program and recommends housing and

community development;

* Advisory Committee for the Disabled, which is designed to develop

barrier-free wheelchair access to buildings and facilities in the city.

Applications are available in the city clerk’s office, 10200 Slater

Ave., and are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 19.
