Girls soccer: Mesa opens strong in Katella Tournament
ANAHEIM - The Costa Mesa High girls soccer team won two games
Saturday to open the Katella Tournament.
In the opener, the Mustangs defeated Brea-Olinda, 2-1. Sharon Day and
Katie Roche each scored goals for the Mustangs, while goalie Chelsea
Soria had 13 saves, including several in the final three minutes of the
game.
The Wildcats entered the game ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section
Division III, while Mesa is ranked No. 9 in Division IV.
In the second game, the Mustangs blanked St. Margaret’s, 4-0, behind
goals from Day, her 15th of the season, Lisa Dunn, Natalie Masciale and
Emily Abbott. Soria posted three saves against the Tartans, ranked No. 5
in Division V.
The Mustangs will resume Pacific Coast League action on Tuesday when
they host Northwood at 3:15 p.m. Mesa will return to the Katella
Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. and play Sunny Hills, ranked No. 9 in
Division II.
