Wrestling: Estancia pins Mesa

COSTA MESA - The Estancia High wrestling team won its cross-town

rivalry in a pin-frenzy over visiting Costa Mesa, 48-27, Tuesday.

The Eagles grabbed five pins to earn the victory as falls came by

Peter Deip (119 pounds), Jeremy Valdes (135), Felipe Tapia (145), Taylor

Hankins (152), and Devon Bowling (Heavyweight).

In one of the most exciting matches of the night, Mesa’s Matt

Grubisich (130) converted an escape with five seconds remaining to earn

a, 7-6, victory.

The Mustangs’ Benedick David (140), Julio Ramirez (160) and Brandon Slaney (189) also won by pin.

Estancia received three wins by forfeit as Luis Valdez (103), Victor

Carmona (125) and Nathan Thaler (215) gained victories. Mesa’s Darrell

McDaniels (171) also won by forfeit.

There was a double forfeit decision in the 112-pound weight class.
