Girls hoops: Mesa’s Hatsushi leads Mustangs to win
COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High senior Nancy Hatsushi paced the
Mustangs girls basketball team with 22 points, leading to a 53-43 Pacific
Coast League victory over visiting Northwood Tuesday.
Hatsushi scored 13 of her points in the second half and finished with
eight assists and eight steals. Mesa (11-8, 2-1 in league) also received
contributions from Rhondi Naff (9 points) and Christine Caron (8).
Down 16-15, the Mustangs used a 24-4 run, which spanned over eight
minutes, closing out the second period and opening the third.
“We were able to get steals or force them into real tough shots,”
Mustangs coach Jim Weeks said of the key scoring run.
Elmo Rezaei led the Timberwolves (8-12, 0-3) with a game-high 27
points.
Mesa will host Laguna Beach, Thursday, at 7 p.m.
