Swimming: Local trio swims well for Novas

Newport Harbor High swimming standouts Aaron Peirsol, Hayley

Peirsol and Ryan Lean helped the Irvine Novaquatics win the team

competition at the Southern California Swimming Senior “Q” Meet last

weekend.

Aaron Peirsol, the silver medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the

200-meter backstroke, came away with victories in the 200-yard butterfly

(1:48.98) and 500 freestyle (4:22.86). He also established SCS age group

records for the 17-18 division in the 100 back (48.53) and 200 back

(1:44.26).

Hayley Peirsol qualified for the World Championship Trials in the

1,650 freestyle with a fourth-place time of 16:35.62.

Lean also qualified for the upcoming trials with strong performances

in the 500 free (4:26.67) and 1,650 free (15:30.86).
