Boys tennis: Mesa hires Williams

COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High Boys Athletic Director Kirk

Bauermeister has selected Dave Williams to coach the Mustangs’ boys

tennis team.

Williams, a walk-on with no previous coaching experience, replaces

John Tichy, subject to district approval.

Williams, 37, competed in water polo and swimming at Foothill High,

but recently took up tennis. He is relocating to Orange County after 10

years in San Diego.

“I’m very happy to see if I can help the kids improve their game,”

Williams said. “I realize it’s universally accepted that Costa Mesa is no

powerhouse, but I’d like the program to become one that other teams

believe they have to prepare for.”
