Letter of the Week

Dear Robert Gardner.

I am writing this to you and your family to offer my condolences upon

learning of your wife Kathryn’s passing.

I am a longtime resident of Newport Beach and though we have not met

personally, I and many other Newport-Mesa residents have gained much

insight into your life and times through your column in the Pilot.

I have the benefit of being a neighbor of Al and Lois Irwin, who are

acquainted with you. Many times after reading one of your histories, I

have gone to Al and he would contribute a shared experience of Naval life

in Pacific theater wartime or from his own vast store of local lore.

Mr. Gardner, you are appreciated and valued by this community. We are

sorry for your loss.
