Mika Sako, a concert pianist from Osaka, Japan, will perform at the

Huntington Beach Central Library Theater at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets for the concert, sponsored by the Sister City Assn. of

Huntington Beach and the Japan America Society, as well as Delta Air

Lines and Kawai America Corp., are $15 for adults, $10 for senior

citizens and $5 for students and children.

Sato was a finalist in the 14th International Chopin Piano

Competition, which is held every five years in Warsaw, Poland, and haw

won numerous prizes in other piano competitions. This weekend’s

performance will cap her debut U.S. concert tour.

TV cable show to focus on energy crisis

Huntington Beach residents can learn more about the statewide energy

crisis and deregulation today on the city-produced television program

“The Mayor’s Report” hosted by Mayor Pam Julien Houchen.

Julien Houchen and Jerry Dominguez, regional manager for the Southern

California Edison Co., will discuss causes of the energy problems, steps

taken to assure the continuation of power to residents, descriptions of

Stage 1, 2 and 3 emergencies as well as actions taken at City Hall to

reduce electrical usage.

The show can be seen on the city’s Channel 3 at 1 a.m., 9 a.m. and 5

p.m. today. It can also be seen at 1:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Friday; 2:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1 a.m., 9 a.m.

and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Genealogical workshops set for Saturday

The Orange County California Genealogical Society will meet Saturday

to discuss the topic “Searching the Church of English Records.”

The discussion will be held at Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111

Talbert Ave., and will feature speaker Beth McCarty, director of the

Orange Family History Center. McCarty will speak at 11 a.m. following a

10 a.m. business meeting, and he also will conduct a 12:30 p.m. workshop

on “Nonconforming Church Records for England and Wales.”

An early bird class is scheduled at 9 a.m. for intermediate and

advanced genealogists, and other 12:30 p.m. workshops include discussion

on basic genealogy, a German interest group and a Salt Lake City trip.

All workshops are free to the public and open to anyone interested.

Central Library to host puppeteer

Puppeteer Jim Gamble will perform at the Huntington Beach Central

Library’s theater in the at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

With characters such as Percy the Penguin, Little Miss Muffet and her

spider, Picasso the Painter-Bear and a trio of ghost-busters, Gamble will

perform the half-hour show titled “The Wonderful World of Puppets.”

Fire Department will hold classes

The Huntington Beach Fire Department will offer instruction in

cardiovascular resuscitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8 in the Huntington

Beach area.

The class is free for residents enrolled in the FireMed program or $36

for nonmembers. Registration is required, and interested residents should
