Boys basketball: Estancia eases past Laguna Beach

COSTA MESA - Estancia High’s Eliasar Maldonado scored a season-high

28 points to lead the Eagles’ boys basketball team to a 71-50 Pacific

Coast League victory over visiting Laguna Beach Wednesday.

Maldonado shot 9 of 12 from the field, including 6 of 8 from behind

the three-point line. He also dished out five assists and collected four

steals. Estancia’s Micah Young (15 points) and Danny Valbuena (10) also

scored in double figures for the Eagles (8-14, 3-4 in league).

“We were kind of lethargic,” Estancia Coach Chris Sorce said. “But, we

did the things we had to do to win and stay in the playoff hunt.”

The Eagles will host Corona del Mar Friday at 7:00 p.m.
