Stop by Chipotle, a gourmet restaurant where you may “eat with your

hands” between 5 and 8 tonight. Make a $5 donation to Share Our Selves,

and then dine on the finest in tacos, burritos, chips and salsa. For the

$5 donation, owner Steve Ells will even throw in a soft drink or two.

Bring the family!

The new restaurant, at 2300 Harbor Blvd. (near the corner of Wilson

Avenue), is underwriting the cost of the evening as a benefit for SOS and

our community. During the week, for lunch or dinner, you will be able to

enjoy fresh chopped herbs, fresh guacamole daily, fresh grilled meats and

freshly made chips and taco shells.

LEO CLUB: The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions have sponsored a new

Leo Club. The Leos are the youth organization of Lions International. The

Leos are called the Estancia Leos, as they are students at Estancia High

School.

Charter night for the club was held Jan. 23 at the Costa Mesa Country

Club. Lion District Gov. Dan Mayer installed the club, and the officers

were installed by our district Leo advisor, Dave Hubbard. Eighteen new

Leos formed the club at Estancia. They will be doing various community

service projects. Their first project was to help decorate the Lions Rose

Parade float in Pasadena. They will also be doing various fund-raisers to

help with charitable donations. They also will become an integral part of

the Fish Fry.

Lions Mike Scheafer and Art Perry will act as advisors to the new

club. Newly installed charter officers for the Leos are Greg Rausch,

president; Eric Scheafer, vice president; Somer Flaherty, secretary; and

Jennifer Cassity, treasurer.

Meetings are held on the Estancia campus. Any parents or students

wanting more information may call Perry at Estancia, or Mike Scheafer at

(714) 435-0300.

SPEECH CONTEST: The Harbor-Mesa Lions club will host the annual

Student Speakers Contest at its meeting Monday at the Costa Mesa Country

Club. Four students from Newport Harbor High School will compete in the

contest on the subject “Politics, Issues or Money?” Students have the

opportunity to compete at the regional, district and multiple Lions

district levels, with winnings of as much as $18,000. The meeting will

start with dinner at 6:30 p.m., and anyone interested in attending may

call President Darlene Shelley at (949) 548-7428.

SPEECH CONTESTANTS NEEDED: The Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa is

looking for contestants from Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar high

schools for its speech contest to be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the

Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. The theme for this year’s contest is “Create

Awareness -- Take Action,” said Youth Services Director Art Walton. Club

winners will go on to the area contest and could advance to the district

finals, where cash rewards await the top contestants. To enter the

contest, call Walton at (949) 650-1900 as soon as possible.
