A 42-year-old Costa Mesa man escaped with a fracture and bruises after

he was hit by a car while crossing West Coast Highway, east of Superior

Avenue, late Thursday, officials said.

Greg Armondo Jauregui was struck shortly after 9 p.m. as he crossed

the street outside of the marked crosswalk, police said. The driver,

Dustin Edward Hopkins, 25, of Huntington Beach, was traveling westbound

on the highway at the time.

Jauregui was treated for a compound fracture and back pain at the UCI

Medical Center and kept under observation. Police say Jauregui was under

the influence of alcohol but the extent of his impairment remains

undetermined.
