COSTA MESA - The Estancia High girls basketball team took one more

step toward its first league title in 10 years after Tuesday night’s

52-42 Pacific Coast League win over visiting Northwood.

The Eagles (15-9, 7-2 in league) were led by sophomore Tisha Gray, who

scored 13 points, all in the second half. Zuyin Barrera added nine

points, while Tory Matsufuji chipped in eight.

“A win is a win and at this point of the season, we’ll take them any

way we can get them,” Estancia Coach Paul Kirby said.

The Eagles were in control from start to finish and led by as many as

15 points.

Elmira Razaei led the Timberwolves (9-17, 1-8) with 16 points She

helped Northwood get to within six points with 3:20 left in the fourth

quarter, but Estancia held on for the win.

“They hit some threes down the stretch, which made it closer,” Kirby

said. “They hit more shots in the second half.”

Estancia will play at University Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Trojans

upset the Eagles, 45-38 on Jan. 23.

“That was probably our worst game of the year, while Uni probably

played one of its best games,” Kirby said. “We just have to play our game

and we’ll be fine.”
