Recruiting: Tars’ Steen to Arizona

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High senior Amber Steen, a two-time

CIF Southern Section Division II cross country champion who also won a

section 1,600-meter title in Division II last spring, has verbally

committed to continue her academic and athletic career at the University

of Arizona.

Steen chose the Tucson-based school over UC Irvine and Oregon.

She was fifth at the CIF state cross country meet last fall.

Her junior track and field campaign included Sea View League titles in

the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 and she went on to win the 1,600 at the CIF Southern Section Division II meet. She was third in the 1,600 at the CIF Masters Meet (all divisions), at which her time of 4:50.75 broke a

14-year-old school record.

She was third in 1,600 at the state meet.
