An opening reception for “Selections from Permanent Collections,” the

first art show this year at the Fine Arts Gallery, will be held from 7 to

9 p.m. Monday.

The show will run from Tuesday until March 9 at the Fine Arts Gallery

on the campus of Golden West College, at 15744 Goldenwest St., Huntington

Beach.

Refreshments will be served, and curator Donna Sandrock will be on

hand to give background about the show.

Coastline art student to display work

Coastline Community College art student Mark Leeds has his digital art

on display this month at the Huntington Beach Library, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach and at the Coastline Community College Administration

Building at 11460 Warner Ave., Fountain Valley.

Coastline to offer online business classes

Coastline Community College has a new group of courses that will teach

classic business principles on the Internet. Developed under a California

grant, the new courses are known collectively as the “e-Business”

curriculum.

Students will be able to attend class in traditional classrooms,

virtual classrooms on the Internet or on cable television. Course credits

may be transferred to the UC and Cal State systems.

Among the courses offered will be an introduction to the new economy,

marketing in the new economy, survey of global business, and personal

financial planning.

High school district receives grant

The Huntington Beach Union High School District was awarded a total of

$2.37 million as part of Gov. Gray Davis’ Education Technology Grant

Program for high schools. The grant provides one-time funding to place

Internet-ready computers in California high schools and increase student

accessibility to computers.

Each school was awarded a certain grant determined by the amount of

Internet-capable computers each school needs to achieve a 4.75 to 1

ratio. After purchasing enough computers to meet the ratio, remaining

funds could be used for related equipment and software, networking,

technical support or professional development and training.

The district is committed to placing the funds directly into

multimedia computers to ensure that every student has access to the

Internet.
