Vanguard splits

COSTA MESA - Vanguard University’s softball team split a

doubleheader with visiting Cal Lutheran Saturday, besting the Lions’ NCAA

Division III rival, 8-0, in the five-inning opener, then falling in the

seven-inning nightcap, 5-1.

Andrea Saucedo was 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Gina

Liebengood earned her first win of the season, allowing two hits and

striking out 10.

In the nightcap, Cal Lutheran struck for three runs in the first

inning and was never threatened.

Vanguard is now 2-4. Cal Lutheran is 1-3.
