The rains came. And they came.

As the county was pounded for most of Monday with rainfall, Newport

Beach and Costa Mesa didn’t feel the brunt of the storm’s force.

For the 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Monday, Newport Beach received

0.27 inches of rain. John Wayne Airport, at the Costa Mesa border,

received 0.77 inches for the same period, a National Weather Service

meteorologist said.

The rainfall numbers were lighter that other county cities, such as

Anaheim. That city received 1.36 inches, meteorologist Dan Atkin said.

Temperatures ranged between 51 and 56 degrees in Newport Beach, Atkin

said.

Newport Beach’s streets weren’t waterlogged, Public Works Director Don

Webb said.

“I’m not aware of any flooding,” Webb said. “It’s been a lot of water,

though.”

Atkin said the rain will probably continue today. He put the

percentage at 60%, with a 30% chance of rain Wednesday.
