Mayor Cowan’s ‘agenda’ is a good one

I’d like to respond to Janice Davidson’s commentary of Feb. 20

concerning [Costa Mesa Mayor] Libby Cowan. First off, I’ve been a

resident of Costa Mesa since 1984, and I’ve known Cowan almost since

then. In all that time, I’ve never seen her lose her temper or act in a

willful way. She’s always acted in a pragmatic and levelheaded manner to

accomplish her goals.

What are her goals, her “secret agenda” as Davidson puts it? As far as

I can tell, she strives to bring people together to improve life in this

community. She believes in coalition-building and balancing the needs of

the business community and homeowners.

Her leadership in government has created improvements in parks, city

infrastructure and recreational opportunities for kids. If this is her

“secret agenda,” I’m all for it.

Judging from the abuse heaped on Cowan, I question what Davidson’s

secret agenda is.

How does she know what mail City Manager Allan Roeder gets unless

she’s involved in orchestrating it? What are the aims of the “groups” she

represents?

If Davidson wants her critiques to be taken seriously rather than as

sour grapes, she should stick to discussing policy issues rather than

attempting character assassination.

Ice Chalet can be put to good uses

I think it’s a shame that Costa Mesa is losing the Ice Chalet, but I

think it would be a great idea to put in an indoor skate park like the

one at the Block of Orange.

Even better would be a roller rink (since we lost ours years ago on

Newport Boulevard) and skateboard park. I know many of the elementary

schools like to use the roller rink in Fountain Valley for fund-raisers,

and parents use it for birthday parties.

I think this would generate a lot revenue for the businesses around

the area. There is also plenty of parking around that whole back area of

the roller rink and theater.

No more Dennis Rodman please

Surely the Daily Pilot staff can find something better to write about

than Dennis Rodman and give at least three different articles’ worth of

free publicity to Josh Slocums restaurant.

I for one, and all the people that I know, will never go there simply

because we know Dennis Rodman -- thanks to the Daily Pilot -- has

invested money in the place. I wouldn’t want to have dinner wondering

about his bizarre behavior affecting my environment any minute.

There’s got to be something you guys can write about that’s more

important to our city than Dennis Rodman -- please. I’m enjoying all the

other articles. I really liked reading about Bob Seaburn and the American

Legion and you guys following the skate park. That’ great.

Let’s have more of that, and thanks but no thanks, Dennis Rodman, boo.
