Basketball: Lions prepare for GSAC playoffs

The Vanguard University men’s and women’s basketball teams open the

Golden State Athletic Conference playoffs on enemy soil this week.

The Vanguard women (17-11, 10-8 in conference) play at Westmont

(20-10, 13-5) tonight, while the men (8-21, 4-14) play at Azusa Pacific

(30-2, 17-1) on Wednesday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The lady Lions, seeded sixth in the playoffs, lost both contests to

the third-seeded Warriors. The Vanguard men, seeded eighth, lost twice to

the top-seeded Cougars but pushed APU (ranked third nationally by the

NAIA) to overtime on Jan. 2 before falling, 84-75.

The winner of each game will play Saturday at Whittier College in the

GSAC semifinals.
