Club soccer: Two Slammers’ squads reach nationals

Two teams from the Slammers Futbol Club of Newport Beach, the girls

under-13 and girls under-12, have advanced to the Snickers National

bracket of the CYSA-South State Cup.

Winners of the U12 and U13 age groups will then compete at the Far

West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. in June.

The U13 team win its first game against the an Diego Hotspurs, 2-0,

and will be competing over the next four weekends in San Bernardino.

The U12 team was a finalist at League Cup in December, reached the

quarterfinals of the Summer Surf Cup 2000 and the finals of of the

SurfGirls Cup over Thanksgiving.

Most recently the U12 team won the Bakersfield President’s Cup while

playing in the U13 age bracket.

The team’s first pool play contest in the South State Cup was a 7-0

win over the Claremont Stars.
