Huntington Beach High School’s Entertainment and Tourism Academy
recently introduced 42 students to the working world through its job
shadowing program. Under director Connie Warbrick, the Oilers learned the
challenges and rewards of working at the Orange County News station,
Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort and four Marriott hotels, including the
Residence Inn, Courtyard Inn, Courtyard Suites and Irvine Marriott.
With instructors John Colby, Pat Lane and Jeanne Baird as supervisors,
the students followed workplace mentors to experience a normal day on the
job.
The academy provides students with courses and hands-on experiences in
the catering, hospitality, culinary, travel, airlines and entertainment
industries. The academy has a network that includes top name hotels,
movie studios, restaurants, Disneyland and John Wayne Airport.
