BRIEFLY EDUCATION

Of all the places you’ll go and all the things you’ll see, nothing

will quite compare to seeing the little ones read.

You’ll get a chance today as students in the Newport-Mesa Unified

School District join in the national celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Today is the fourth annual Read Across America Day.

The National Education Assn. asks that everyone -- teachers,

administrators, students, parents and other community members -- put

reading first today.

Last year, the event involved more than 30 million readers, both young

and old. Officials with the education association hope to see that number

grow this year.
