With a little help from the weatherman, opening day will take place

Saturday throughout the Newport-Mesa area for youth baseball, officially

kicking off the 2001 season.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening in each organization’s kickoff

celebration.

Former Major League Baseball Coach Marc Cresse (Los Angeles Dodgers)

and former big league pitcher Dave Frost (California Angels) will be a

part of opening-day ceremonies for the Newport Beach Little League, held

at Lincoln Elementary.

The youth parade begins at 9:30 a.m. with a carnival at 11 a.m. and a

Majors Division championship rematch between the Red Sox and Giants at

1:30 p.m.

The Costa Mesa American Little League kicks off its ceremonies at 8:30

a.m. with a parade, followed by games throughout the day.

Mayor Libby Cowan will be on hand to present the Mayor’s cup to the

CMALL All-Stars for their championship over the Costa Mesa Nationals last

year. The festivities will take place at the majors field at Costa Mesa

High.

The Costa Mesa National Little League will have opening-day games from

8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a parade at 11 a.m. at TeWinkle School. There

will also have a big-league style barbecue for those in attendance.
