Women’s tennis: OCC players fall in finals
SAN DIEGO - Five Orange Coast College players reached the finals of
the Southwestern Tournament Saturday afternoon in various flights, but
none were able to pull out victories.
Veronica Sommer (6-3, 6-2), Stephanie Chang (6-4, 3-6, 7-6) and
Raphaela Boehm (by default), as well as the doubles team of Kristen
Lawson and Sondra McNamara advanced to finals competition before being
eliminated.
The Pirates will resume team competition on Monday when they host
Saddleback, beginning at 2 p.m.
SOUTHWESTERN TOURNAMENT
Singles semifinals - Sommer (OCC) def. Prado (Cerritos), 6-3, 6-2;
Chang (OCC) def. Solgetova (Grossmont), 6-4, 3-6, 7-6; Mariscal
(Cerritos) def. Mai (OCC), 6-1, 6-1; Boehm (OCC) by default.
Singles finals - Tanaka (College of the Desert) def. Sommer (OCC),
6-3, 6-1; Altamirano (Southwestern) def. Chang (OCC), 6-1, 3-0 (retire); Salahshour (Saddleback) def. Boehm (OCC), 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles finals - Magat-Toby (Grossmont) def. Lawson-McNamara (OCC),
7-6, 6-3.
