Boys volleyball: Sailors lose marathon

FOUNTAIN VALLEY - The Newport Harbor High boys volleyball team saw

the finish line, but could not cross it during Wednesday’s 10-15, 9-15,

15-16, 15-8, 16-14 nonleague loss to host Fountain Valley.

The Sailors won the first two games, but lost the next two and trailed

in the fifth game, 11-3, before mounting a comeback.

The Sailors (0-1) took a 14-12 lead, but the Barons won the last four

points to pull out the win.

Blake Tippet led the Sailors with 38 kills, while Greg Perrine added

18 and Christian Berg-Hansen chipped in 16. Setter Lloyd Wright sparked

Newport’s offense with 87 assists, while Morgan Craig added 13 kills,

five ace serves and 19 digs.
