Shooting Stars shoot past Comets, 33-18

The West Huntington Beach Shooting Stars, a Girls’ National Junior

Basketball Division II team, defeated the Newport Mesa Comets, 33-18 in a

Championship Series game.

Andrea Ostrowski’s pinpoint outside shooting resulted in a game-high

13 points, while center Libby DuFresne chipped in with 12 points.

Point guard Courtney Gillespie had nine assists and six points,

Kimberly Copenhaver had four assists, Lindsay Mendell had six rebounds

and a pair of steals and Raquel Cardelini came off the bench to score her

first basket of the season.

The Shooting Stars, now 1-1 in postseason play, resume Championship

Series play Sunday (1:30 p.m.) at Ayala High.
