Ballet Pacifica Conservatory will hold placement auditions for its

Summer Intensive Program 2001 at 2 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The 2 p.m.

audition is for children age 10 to 13, and the 3:30 p.m. is for people

age 14 and older. The conservatory is at 1824 Kaiser Ave., Irvine.

The four-week program runs from July 30 to Aug. 25 and will include

classes on ballet technique, pointe, variations, dance conditioning,

modern, character and jazz, as well as special seminars on injury

prevention and care, nutrition and technique analysis. The session will

conclude with a performance of classical repertory and original works

created by guest choreographers and faculty.

Opera Camp 2001 auditions set in April

Auditions for Opera Pacific’s Opera Camp 2001 will be held April 21 by

appointment only at the Academy for the Performing Arts, Huntington Beach

High School, Building M, 1905 Main St.

Opera Camp 2001 will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13 to Aug. 5,

with participants receiving instruction from top industry professionals

in acting, dance, vocal basics and opera history. The camp will include

special classes in costuming and makeup, concluding with a production of

“Cinderella” performed by camp participants Aug. 4 and 5.

Tuition is $375 with only a limited number of partial scholarships.

Original stories to be staged at library

The Imagination Machine will stage stories written by adult students

in the Newport Beach Public Library’s Literacy Program at 11 a.m.

Saturday at the Newport Beach Central Library’s Friends Meeting Room,

1000 Avocado Ave., Newport Beach.

The show will include music, mime and improvisation. It also will

provide information about the library’s literacy program.
