Boys golf: Mesa nearly wins

COSTA MESA - After two days of nonleague action, the Costa Mesa

boys golf team surrendered, 447-451, to Western Thursday.

Mesa junior Bryce Sheridan finished as the medalist after shooting a

78 out of par-70 combined from Wednesday’s action at the Anaheim “Dad

Miller” Golf Club and Thursday at Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club’s Mesa

Linda course.

Mustang junior Billy Lund shot a 79 and tied for second place with

Western’s Chris Punzalan.

Steve Whittaker had a 95 and Mike Gardiner ended with a 101.

Mesa (1-2) returns to action Monday at 2:30 p.m. in a match against El

Modena at Mesa Linda.
