Davis hits, pitches Eagles to baseball victory

COSTA MESA - Brent Davis tossed a one-hit shutout through four

innings on the mound and went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double at the

plate as host Estancia High defeated Los Amigos, 16-0, in a nonleague

baseball game Monday shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

For the Eagles (3-2), it was a tuneup for Friday’s Pacific Coast

League opener against Costa Mesa, which hosts Los Amigos (1-3-1) tonight

at 7 at TeWinkle Park.

J.B. Goff went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Jordan Hart went 2 for 3

with two RBIs for Estancia.

Davis, who improved to 2-0, gave up his only hit in the fourth inning

with two out.

Golf

El Modena outshoots Mustangs in golf

COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High junior Bryce Sheridan shot 1-over 36, but

El Modena defeated the host Mustangs in a nonleague boys golf match

Monday, 192-225, over nine holes at the par-35 Mesa Linda Course at Costa

Mesa Golf & Country Club.

Sheridan made birdie on the par-3 No. 6 with a 30-foot putt, while

Billy Lund (41), Steve Whittaker (46), Devon Stephens (49) and Kevin

Alexander (53) also scored for Mesa (2-3). The Mustangs play Garden Grove

today in nonleague action at Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana.

Estancia earns win over Millikan

LONG BEACH - The Estancia High boys golf team completed the final nine

holes of its 18-hole nonleague match with Long Beach Millikan and won the

overall match, 409-416, Monday.

The final nine holes were played at El Dorado Country Club, par 36,

while the first nine were played Thursday at Mesa Verde Country Club, par

35.

Joey Mueller led the Eagles with an 18-hole total of 77, while Jason

Cassidy (80), Greg Rausch (83), Aaron Frankel (84) and Pete Baker (85)

rounded out the Eagles top five.

The Eagles (2-0) will play at Mesa Verde today at 2:30 p.m. against

Woodbridge.

Pirates fall in four-team match

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College men’s golf team lost a four-team

Orange Empire Conference match Monday at Mesa Verde Country Club (par 71)

with Riverside, Cuyamaca and Santa Ana.

Riverside won the match with a 396, while Cuyamaca (402), Santa Ana

(403) and Orange Coast (405) completed the team scoring.

Jason Woodrome led the Pirates with a 79, while Jake Allanach (81),

Clay Wright (81), Brian Winston (82) and Lu Carrasco (82) wrap up OCC’s

top five.

Tennis

Marina tops Mesa in tennis

COSTA MESA - Senior Raphael Bernard won once in singles and juniors

Abraham Agopian and Laurent Nguyen played well in doubles for Costa Mesa

High’s boys tennis team Monday, but visiting Marina defeated the

Mustangs, 13-5, in a nonleague match. Mesa (1-2) opens Pacific Coast

League action Wednesday at Aliso Niguel.

Softball

Pirates fall to Irvine Valley

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College softball team gave up four

unearned runs in Monday’s 5-3 Orange Empire Conference loss to visiting

Irvine Valley.

Kim Guillen pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Pirates

(5-9-1, 0-7 in conference), but six OCC errors proved to be too much to

overcome.
