The mesa is a good buy for the city

We want you to know of our support for the City Council of Huntington

Beach for their decision to begin talks about purchasing and funding the

Bolsa Chica mesa.

It is important to the community, the state and the people to preserve

and protect these last remnants of our natural environment.

Sullivan’s comments about Detloff unwarranted

Former Councilman Dave Sullivan’s letter in the March 8 Community

Forum accusing Councilwoman Shirley Detloff of a conflict of interest was

irresponsible, uninformed and totally unwarranted.

Detloff was not on the City Council at the time Amigos de Bolsa Chica

(not Shirley Detloff as an individual) agreed to support a 1989 concept

plan, known as the “Coalition Plan,” which never became a development

plan.

She did not sell her vote in regard to Bolsa Chica and had no conflict

of interest with regard to any vote that she later made as a public

official.

Preserve Orange County by saving the mesa

I recently read in the local papers about how Orange County is fast

becoming (or has already become) another Los Angeles County with

overcrowding, not enough jobs for all the people, crime, etc.

In the same paper but in another section, there was an article that

almost cried out for more housing for the multitudes moving in.

Well, folks, you can’t have it both ways.

Hooray to Connie Boardman, Debbie Cook, Shirley Detloff and Mayor Pam

Julien-Houchen for supporting the decision to preserve the Bolsa Chica

mesa in Huntington Beach.

Seems like the only “scrap” of free space left here! Someone has to do

something to save it and I am glad these ladies are trying to help.

Thumbs up to the council’s mesa purchase push

I heartily support the City Council for taking a stand on the decision

to begin talks with the owner/developer of the mesa and for searching for

funding sources that can be used to purchase the mesa.

It’s essential that we do all we can to preserve the wetland area --

one of the very few natural wonders remaining in Orange County.

The greedy developers are never satiated until they drain every dollar

possible from wherever they can.

Do not develop the Bolsa Chica mesa

I am writing to voice my support for the City Council and Coastal

Commission decision on the Bolsa Chica mesa. Such an ecologically

sensitive area should not be developed.

Councilwomen deserve thanks for purchase idea

I am an advocate for saving “all” of the Bolsa Chica wetlands and mesa

in their entirety!

Many kind thanks to Connie Boardman, Debbie Cook, Shirley Detloff and

Mayor Pam Julien-Houchen for making the motion and taking a stand on the

decision to begin talks with the owner and search for funds.

They have given a voice to all the animals, fish, birds and insects

that have their homes at the Bolsa Chica wetland and mesa.

This valuable place is a living history of California for all to enjoy

and learn from.
