Prep baseball: Laguna Beach defeats Eagles, 6-1
LAGUNA BEACH - Estancia High junior leadoff man J.D. Goff went 2
for 3, but no other Eagle managed a hit in a 6-1 Pacific Coast baseball
loss at Laguna Beach Tuesday.
Laguna Beach scored four runs in the first inning, including a home
run by John Verdugo, for all it would need.
Estancia scored its only run in the third, when Andy Romo reached on
an error, Mitch Valdes walked and Romo tagged up and went to third on a
deep fly ball by Goff. Romo then came home on an RBI groundout by Armando
Ortiz.
Estancia Coach Doug Deats said Brent Davis pitched well, allowing
eight hits and three earned runs.
The Eagles (3-5, 0-2 in league) visit league-leading Corona del Mar
Friday at 3:15.
