CMNLL Majors: Marlins baffle Cardinals

COSTA MESA - P.J. Errington and Vinnie Valdez combined to throw 10

strikeouts to lead the Marlins to a 6-1 win over the Cardinals in Costa

Mesa National Little League Majors Division action.

The Marlins scored five times in the first inning. Valdez, Bryce

Stillman Adam Seagondollar, Adam Whitaker and Trevor Lillis each crossed

the plate to spark the win.

Cardinal pitchers Eddie Tomasek and Tim Morley combined for five

strikeouts, while the defense was anchored by Chad Belmont, Garrick

Williams, Tim Morley, Starnes Arnold and Daniel Freeman.

In other Majors Division action:

Dodgers 9, Diamondbacks 3 - Mike McDaniels pitched five strong innings

to lead the Dodgers over the D-Backs.

McDaniels struck out five and also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two

RBIs.

Juan Guzman, scored two runs, while Brian Sankey, Bryan Bennett,

Steven Dean, Jesse Guevardo, Justin Long and Ian Abernathy also

contributed to the Dodgers’ win with fine, all-around play.

In Minor-A Division action:

Cardinals 11, Diamondbacks 9 - The Diamondbacks jumped out to a 6-0

lead, thanks to strong hitting from Eric Mickelson, Devon Edwards,

Jonathan Jones, Gene Garcia, Jeffrey Schoettler and Cody Woods.

The D-Backs’ defense was led by Sean Ulrich, Gavin Montague and Carlos

Guzman, while pitcher Gilbert Baas pitched four strong innings.

Marlins 10, Dodgers 2 - Pitcher Johnny Persons pitched a complete game

with eight strikeouts to lead the Marlins over the Dodgers.

Strong Marlin defense by Kyle Lux, Cory Ames, Evan Kipnis and Juan

Moreno slowed numerous Dodger rallies.

Persons was strong offensively as well, with four hits. Nick Dipietro

went 3 for 3, while Moreno, Cameron Santana and Gregory Stanley each

reached base twice. Blake Rowerdink had his first double of the season

and also took care of a deep fly ball in right field on defense.

In Minor-B Division action:

Dodgers 13, Angels 12 - Josh Godich’s two-run home run led the

Dodgers’ 17-hit attack in their win over the Angels.

Bryan Maurer, Ryan Boselo, Nick Fowler, Mark DeFrenza and Tony Campo

each had two hits for the Dodgers, while Luke Roberts made a nice

defensively play in right field.

Maurer and Andrew Roth combined to pitch five effective innings with

nine strikeouts, while Ryan Molaskey, Adam Miller, Tim Frydendall and

Kendra Fisher played solid defensive games for the Dodgers.

In T-Ball Majors Division action:

The Diamondbacks, in their contest with the Rockies, were led

defensively by Conrad Beach, Stephen Weigand, Robert Sullivan and Ben

Beck, while Colin Moran, Joshua Vanderwal, Kush Buch, Luv Buch, Shanel

Ames, Kylee Stone and Branden Arceyut ignited the offense.

Against the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks were led on defense by Royce

Friedman, Mason Cooper and Nathan Sida, while on offense, Jayme

Krehnfeldt, Matthew Morgan, Alex McCabe, Christina Salcedo, Katie Tehes,

Angel Perez, Kevin Williams and Connor Hadley led the way.

In Farm Division action:

In their game with the Cardinals, the Cubs were led by the offensive

1-2 punch of Karla Feinstein (3 for 4) and Sami Feinstein (4 for 4).
