Ocean View School District Trustee Pam Walker asked for the parents

and other citizens dedicated to the welfare of children in this city to

step forward and have their voices heard.

Apparently, she has chosen to ignore the voices of the hundreds of

parents and concerned citizens who have attended school board meetings,

written letters and signed petitions to say no to her gym proposal.

So hear my voice.

I am the voice of the taxpayer. Twelve million dollars is too much to

spend on gyms!

We do not want to spend the next 15 years paying off your debt. Stop

wasting our tax dollars. If Walker needs to hear more voices, she should

put this issue on the next ballot and the voters will tell her loud and

clear.

A question for Pam Walker, who wrote that the school district is

“paying the price for decisions made by our predecessors” (What doesn’t

have merit is columnist’s attack, March 15).

Why then are the superintendent and three members of the current board

so hellbent on compounding the problems?

Building larger-than-necessary gyms would not only mean less money for

more pressing needs throughout the district, it would also keep the

rental/joint use possibility hanging over neighborhoods forever.

Of the current board, only Carol Kanode and Barbara Boskovich are

asking the right questions about priorities; the rest of the board is

brushing those questions aside.
