Chase Rolls of Newport Beach has been named a United States National
Award Winner in mathematics. Rolls, a student at St. Margaret’s Episcopal
School in Newport Beach, was selected for the award based on the
recommendation of teachers, academic performance and citizenship. .
.Orange Coast College’s speech and debate team captured its third state
speech title in a row recently, winning the California Community College
Speech and Debate Tournament, hosted by Pasadena City College. . .Air
Force Airman Alvin R. De La Cruz, nephew of Rebecca Garcia of Costa Mesa,
recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force
Base in Texas. . .Eight Vanguard University students have been named as
recipients of $28,600 in scholarships by the university’s alumni
association. The winners include Jessica Baptist, Fernando Tamara, Nathan
Harrington, Ruthie Jeter, Andrew Richey, Ilana Rosenberg, Sarah Sherman
and Josh Case. . .Ralph Dillon and Stacy de Boom were recently named Man
and Woman of the Year for the Hoag Hospital 552 Club Juniors for the year
2000. . .The Eagle Pride Foundation Costa Mesa Kiwanis recently presented
its quarterly student awards to 13 students from Costa Mesa schools for
their outstanding character and unique accomplishments. They include:
Ryan Esfahani, Karina Rios and Jaimie Aparicio from Adams; Athma
Ramdath-Maharaj and Steven Guzowski from California; Benny Telles and
Diana Antonio Martinez from Rea; Aashish Varma and Sarah Barr from
Victoria; Francisco Moreno and Fritzie Santiago from Wilson; and Ian
Morton and Alejandra Cerros from TeWinkle.
