Basketball: Two Mustangs named to OC All-Star squads

Costa Mesa High boys basketball standout Steve Whittaker and girls

point guard Nancy Hatsushi were named to the boys and girls South Orange

County All-Star basketball teams Wednesday.

Whittaker, who averaged nearly 13 points per game, helped the Mustangs

(17-10) earn a piece of the Pacific Coast League title, the school’s

first league title in 41 varsity seasons.

Hatsushi averaged 12.6 points per game as the Mustangs (16-13) reached

the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs.

Mesa boys Coach Bob Serven is the coach of the boys All-Star squad,

while Santa Ana Valley’s Nicole Quinn leads the girls All-Star team.

South Orange County will take on North Orange County April 28 at

Orange Coast College. The girls will play at 5 p.m. followed by the boys

at 8 p.m.
