NBLL Majors: Reds edge Giants, 7-6

NEWPORT BEACH - The Reds broke a 6-6 tie with a bases-loaded walk

to defeat the Giants, 7-6, Saturday, in Newport Beach Little League

Majors Division action.

Ryan Lanni scored the winning run for the Reds, while Jake Lemmerman

and J.P. Gormly combined for five hits.

Ryan Kent, Tyler Ellis and Andrew Silva each had key hits for the

Reds, while Brian Burke pitched six strong innings and Eric Mooney made a

nice catch in center field.

Nick Taylor led the Giants with a single and double, while key hits

were provided by Tommy Hutchison, Kevin Kottke, Danny Moskovits and Marc

Roudanez. Moskovits and Phillip Bannan each pitched well for the Giants.

In other Majors Division action:

Giants 6, Braves 2 - Jaffer Kattan’s two-run single broke a 2-2 tie

and gave the Giants the lead for good over the Braves.

Pitcher Danny Moskovits shut down the Braves in the final three

innings with six strikeouts. He also had two singles and an RBI, while

Phillip Bannan added a single, triple and one RBI.

Nick Taylor, Kevin Dearen, Kevin Kottke, Danny Hurst and Mark Kanow

each helped spark the Giants’ offense.

Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 1 - Pitchers Greg Garte and Fletcher Della

Grotta combined for a three-hitter to lead the Diamondbacks over the

Dodgers.

Garte, Della Grotta, Garrett Amoroso, Conner Whalen and Cameron Black

each had key hits for the D-Backs, while Ford Noe, Chris Rosen and Wyatt

Cole each made solid plays on defense.

The Dodgers were led by the all-around play of Kelsey Chase, Alex

Johnston, Luke Greiner, Ryan Austin, Spencer Brown and Alan Hardison.

Yankees 12, Red Sox 2 - Vinnie Saint John had three hits, two runs

scored and two RBIs to lead the Yankees.

Zack Von Berg added four hits, four runs scored and two RBIs, while

Patrick Marin-Finn came through with a hit and two RBIs. Von Berg and

Kyle Legnand each pitched well for the Yanks.

For the Red Sox, Grant Gerdau and Alex Matthews each had key hits.

In AAA Division action:

Tigers 7, Red Sox 6 - The Tigers withstood a late-inning rally to edge

the Red Sox on Saturday.

Pitchers Steven Manning, Denny Powers and Trevor Jones held the Red

Sox to only four hits over five innings.

The Tigers’ attack was led by Garrett Meaut, who hit a home run and

Austin McCarthy, who singled, doubled and drove in four runs.

Jesse Starnes was the defensive star for the Tigers, robbing a Red Sox

hitter from an extra-base hit with a diving snag at first base.

The Red Sox were led by James Cunningham, Matt Steinberg, Matt

Wheatley and Travis Leyton.

Mariners 13, Braves 0 - Hunter Adler pitched two solid innings and

smacked a home run and a single for five RBIs to lead the Mariners.

Cory MacDonald added two hits and scored two runs, while Zak

Maurer-Erickson, Eric Hansen, Philip Patterson, Michelle Tucker, and Kirk

MacDonald each collected hits and scored runs.

On defense, Ryan Gladych made two solid defensive plays for the M’s.

The Braves were led hits from Tyler Haly and David Dalton, while the

pitching was anchored by Danny Baker and Scott Ely.

Mariners 13, Yankees 3 - Sean Tokuyama had four hits and three runs

scored to lead the Mariners.

Michelle Zucker pitched two solid innings with four strikeouts, while

Tommy Colton, Kirk MacDonald, Ryan Gladych and Hunter Adler provided

offensive punch with a combined eight hits.

The Yankees were led by Ryan Spitzer, Max Frisbee and Brandon

Davenport.

Angels 11, Diamondbacks 4 - Parker Stone, Randell Nelson and Eric

Mutzke led the Angels’ attach with two hits each.

Andrew Mason, Conner Bannon each added key hits, while Guy Sutherland

and Taylor Stone each scored runs.

Other key performances for the Angels came from Tennyson Mitchell,

Alex Shafnitz, Kolfax Selby and Scott Eskew.

Bannon, Taylor Stone and Parker Stone combined to pitch effectively

for the Angels, while Mutzke and Sutherland provided solid glove work.

The Diamondbacks were led by solid offense from Merret Scott, Kendall

Pick, Mason Sayer, Jerry Kazmierczak and Brian Yasukochi.

Angels 17, Tigers 8 - Taylor Stone had three hits, while Eric Mutzke

added two hits to lead the Angels.

Tennyson Mitchell, Kolfax Selby and Parker Stone each added a key hit,

while pitchers Conner Bannon, Parker Stone and Guy Sutherland combined to

strike out 11 Tigers.

For the Tigers, Austin McCarthy had a two-run double, while Danny

Powers, Garrett Meaut, Trevor Jones, Joe Booth, Eric Chebil and Steven

Manning each added key hits.

Dodgers 9, Angels 2 - Pitcher Michael Bloom struck out eight over four

innings of work to lead the Dodgers past the Angels.

J.P. Fleming and Reed Zachman both singled and walked, while Brad

Jones and John Doering led the Dodgers defensively.

The Angels were led by Kolfax Selby and Alex Schafnitz.

Cardinals 4, Mets 2 - Trailing, 2-0, the Cardinals rallied with a

four-run fourth inning to pull out the win.

Jake Kellian had an RBI triple to start the rally, while Brett

Weinberger and Kevin Tsou each had RBI hits. Camden Nicholson pitched

three strong innings to earn the victory.

In AA Division action:

Dodgers 6, Mets 5 - Pitchers Chase Nugent and Kyle Danese combined to

strike out 15 batters to lead the Dodgers.

Chris Burke, David Weiland and Nick Flamson each had key hits, while

Francesco Impagliazzo, Carter Taylor, Kyle Jones and Jarrett Logan each

played well defensively.

The Mets had good hitting from Michael Moore, Tyler Norwood and Chase

Carlisle.

Angels 15, Braves 9 - Nick Couchot, Brett Berkley, Brent Gray and

Hunter O’Brien each came through with key hits to lead the Angels.

Couchot and Cory Vitalo combined to pitch effectively for the Angels,

while Derek Spreitzer, Andrew Dunlap, Patrick Vorwerck and Hunter O’Brien

led the defense.

Peter Fraaza and Armani Ferrante had clutch hits for the Braves.

Angels 12, Cardinals 9 - A five-run fifth inning broke a 7-7 tie to

lead the Angels.

Jack Gerday, Nick Couchot and Patrick Vorwerck each had key hits in

that five-run spurt, while Chris Seagren, Hunter O’Brien, Emory Molnar

and Austin Allen made the key defensive plays.

The Cardinals received clutch hits from David Fink, who tied the game

with a three-run double, Matt Wilkerson, Garrett Larson and David

Robosky.
