Track and field: Youth championships set for April 6

NEWPORT BEACH - The 2001 Youth Track and Field Championships will

take place April 6 from 4:30-9:30 p.m. at Newport Harbor High.

Registration can be done in person at the City of Newport Beach

Community Services Office, located at 3300 Newport Blvd. The fee is $10

for residents and $13 for non-residents and the deadline is Friday.

Registration can also be done of the day of the event for $15

(residents) or $18 (non-residents). Check-in will be held at the stadium

entrance from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Clinics are currently underway at various elementary schools

throughout the area. Mariners, Newport Heights and Newport Elementary

schools will have clinics for various events Monday and Wednesday from

3-4:30 p.m., while Anderson, Harbor View and Lincoln elementary schools

will hold clinics Tuesday and Thursday, also from 3-4:30.

All participants must wear shoes in the competition. Track and turf

spikes are not permitted.

Youngsters between the ages of 6-15 are invited to compete. For
