Giants rally past A’s, 7-6

Kyle Hughes scored in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to cap a

five-run rally by the Giants, which led to a 7-6 victory over the A’s in

Majors Division play at Ocean View Little League.

Giants relief pitcher Chris Nowlin didn’t allow a run in three innings

pitched to nab the win.

Hughes, Andy Pierce, and Ryan Schulenburg each had key hits and Justin

Pack had a hit and a RBI to lead the Giants on offense.

Nick Orendorff had three hits, Davey Hughey had two hits and scored

twice, Michael Peters had a pair of hits, Randy Guite had a hit and RBI

and Bryan Van Arsdale had two RBI to lead the A’s.

Mets 6, Yankees 1

The Mets notched the victory behind the three-hit, 14-strikeout

pitching performances of Troy Davis and Scott Melchert (each pitched

three innings, with seven strikeouts). Melchert also finished with two

hits, Anthony Biegel, Darryl Bennett and Jon Grothe each singled. David

Harrington’s two-RBI single in the third inning broke the game open for

the Mets.

Adrian Conger had two doubles and scored the lone run for the Yankees.

MINOR B DIVISION

Dodgers 6, Giants 2

The Dodgers collected their initial win of the season behind the

pitching of Nick Hansen, Mark Johnston and Sean Rubino, and an

inside-the-park home run by Trenton Schamel, which produced three runs.

Hansen struck out eight and gave up two runs in three innings pitched

and Johnston followed by striking out three in one inning’s work. Rubino

came in to close out the victory.
