Community college men’s volleyball: Orange Coast wins again
LONG BEACH - The Orange Coast College men’s volleyball team ended
interconference play with a 25-19, 25-17, 31-29 victory at Long Beach
City Friday.
OCC’s Jeff Taylor ended Game 3 with a kill after the teams traded
points down the stretch. Sophomore B.J. Lightvoet, a Costa Mesa High
product, led the way with 12 kills, while Soren Schneider added nine
kills for the Pirates (15-1, 10-1 in the Orange Empire Conference).
Coast maintains a 2 1/2-game lead over Irvine Valley in the OEC race.
Late in Game 1, Coast came alive. With the score tied, 16-16, the Bucs
scored four straight points en route to a 25-19 win. OCC maintained the
momentum into the second game, taking a five-point lead at 13-8 and
stayed on top throughout a 25-17 win.
The Bucs return to OEC competition Wednesday when they host San Diego
Mesa at 7 p.m.
The Vikings, of the South Coast Conference, fell to 7-6 overall and
7-4 in the SCC.
