Both individuals and groups of volunteers are needed immediately for a

variety of positions with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and

its 10th Anniversary Komen Orange County Race for the Cure.

The race takes place on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Fashion Island in Newport

Beach. More than 30,000 participants are expected, and more than 1,400

volunteers are needed.

The race raises funds for national breast cancer research and Komen

breast health programs in Orange County. Last year, the race raised $1.36

million and 75% of the net proceeds stay in the county for local breast

cancer outreach programs. The rest supports the Komen Foundation’s

research program.

The race is the largest 5K event in California dedicated solely to

raising money for breast cancer.

No experience is necessary to volunteer and organizers are looking for

people to fill committee member positions in areas like registration,

operations, teams and sponsorship. Positions are also available for the

speakers bureau, preregistration events, race weekend activities and

clerical support in the Costa Mesa office. Ever volunteer will receive a

free T-shirt.
