NHBA: Indians baffle Mets

A quartet of pitchers led the Indians to a 7-4 win over the Mets,

in Newport Harbor Baseball Association Bronco Division (ages 11-12)

action.

Nathan Todd pitched three shutout innings and struck out four, while

relievers Andrew Kuban, Garrett Gordon and Kyle Rohan combined for six

strikeouts the rest of the way.

Gordon, Brennan Davis, John Razzano, Michael Menninger, Robert Rubio,

Josh Jobse and T.J. Fish each run-producing hits for the Indians.

On defense, Robby Joslin and Kyle Rohan made solid plays, while the

bats of Jackson Massingill and Robbie Joslin added some late-inning

production.

In other Bronco Division action:

Dodgers 7, Cubs 6 - Ian Goodwin had three hits and caught four strong

innings to lead the Dodgers over the Cubs.

Eric Paine pitched three quality innings, while adding a hit and two

RBIs for the Dodgers. Jarrett Daniel and R.J. D’Cruz pitched the

remaining innings to hold the Cubs off.

Jerry Whitney collected two hits and had two RBIs, while Jake Dayton

reached base twice and scored once.

Defensively, the Dodgers were led by Dan Winkle, Chase Behr and Trey

LaGrandeur.

For the Cubs, Zippy Levy had a triple and double, while Peter Hapke

added a double and two runs scored. The Cubs’ pitching was led by Drew

Harris, Freddie Randall and Austin Carden.

Dodgers 10, Red Sox 7 - A six-run second inning keyed the Dodgers’ win

over the Red Sox.

Key hits in that inning came from Eric Paine, Dan Winkle and Jerry

Whitney.

Trey LaGrandeur and Robert Tumlin also scored runs in the second

inning, while Alan Orozco paced the offense with three hits.

Paine, Jarrett Daniel and R.J. D’Cruz each pitched well for the

Dodgers, while Ian Goodwin, Jake Payton and Chase Behr anchored the

defense.

The Red Sox were led by solid, all-around play from Bret Houton,

Michael Helfrich, Vincent Newsome, Spenser Smith and Brock Shuler.

In Mustang Division (ages 9-10) action:

Giants 13, Red Sox 4 - Garrett Gallegos, Adrian Luchs and Chad Seeber

led the attack for the Giants in their win over the Red Sox.

Despite the loss, the Red Sox were led offensively by Ryan Albert,

Alex Rios and Randall Hause. Bobby Okvist and Jesse Hickey anchored the

Red Sox defense.

Red Sox 12, Braves 1 - Ryan Albert went 3 for 3 with a triple, double

three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Red Sox over the Braves.

Alex Rios (2 for 2, two runs scored), Max Royer, Sean Manado and Bobby

Okvist each came through offensively for the Red Sox, while Jesse Hickey,

Randall Hause and Jeff Hamilton each scored runs.

Luke Fischer and Chris Zarvos provided solid, all-around play, while

the pitching staff was led by Rios and Eric Holland, who combined to

strike out 11.

The Braves’ hits were provided by Garrett Weigel and Blake Davey.

Dodgers 9, Mariners 5 - Chris Griffin went 4 for 4 with five RBIs to

lead the Dodgers over the Mariners.

Catcher Victor Done threw out two runners at second base for the

Dodgers, while pitcher Daniel Norris struck out three.

Garrett McRoberts had two hits and pitched three strong innings for

the Dodgers, while David Panas, Max Jolliffe and Jeff Frum played well on

offense and defense.

In Pinto Division (ages 7-8) action:

For the Braves, in their contest with the Cubs, Spencer Rautus came

through with an unassisted triple play.

Solid pitching by Luke Dawson, combined with strong defense by Jake

Black, Jamie Davis and Rick Sullivan sparked the Braves. On offense,

Colton Jackson, Aaron Newman and Steven Denhausen led the charge.

For the Marlins, in their matchup with the Devil Rays, Austin Rios hit

a three-run home run, while Domenic Re added two hits and two solid

defensive plays at second base.

The Marlins’ pitching core of Rios, Max Gerard and Scotty Steffel all

performed well.

For the Red Sox, in their battle with the Mariners, Kelly Blake, Evan

Gray, Ryan Cerrato, Nicholas Hanson and Steven Michaelson sparked the

offense, while Cole Blower, J.D. Dawn, Deric Hensley and Bradley Courier

anchored the defense.
