NBLL: Angels hold off Reds

The Newport Beach Little League Majors Division Angels held off a

late rally to defeat the Reds, 7-6.

Geoffrey Grant pitched three scoreless innings for the Angels, while

Barrett Hendrickson, Andy Rovzar and Michael Page contributed key hits.

The Reds were led by Brett Bartlet, Brian Burk and Andrew Silva.

In other Majors Division action:

Mariners 5, Yankees 2 - Tom Solis struck out six over three innings,

while Willie Harrison threw three shutout innings in relief to lead the

Mariners over the Yankees.

Jason Erpinar, Tom Thomas and Bryce Donavon played solid defense for

the Mariners.

The Yankees were led by Vinnie Saint John, who scored twice and

pitched three strong innings.

Mariners 6, Braves 1 - Kevin Rask ripped a two-run triple, while Tom

Solis scored three runs to lead the M’s over the Braves.

On the mound, Rask allowed only two hits in five innings, before Nick

Freeman closed the door with a scoreless inning of relief.

The Braves were led by David Wheatley, who tripled and scored the

team’s lone run.

Mariners 4, Cardinals 1 - Willie Harrison pitched six strong innings

to lead the M’s over the Cards.

Harrison struck out 10 and walked only one in the five-hitter.

Nicholas Russo-Larsson had two hits for the Mariners, Nick Freeman

went 2 for 2 and Michael Bear came through with a key base hit for the

Mariners.

For the Cardinals, William O’Brien had a double and run scored, while

Ryan Telles played well defensively.

In AAA Division action:

Angels 9, Red Sox 1 - The Angels used strong pitching and 11 hits to

take care of the Red Sox.

Angel pitchers Conner Bannon, Parker Stone, Randall Nelson and Taylor

Stone combined for 10 strikeouts, while allowing only seven hits.

Stone had a home run and two RBIs, while Kolfax Selby added two

doubles and two runs scored. Bannon and Max Voettner each had two hits,

while Nelson, Andrew Mason, Guy Sutherland and Eric Mutzke each had key

hits for the Angels.

The Red Sox were led by John Lockhart, who singled and scored the

team’s lone run. William Ham, Max Wheatley and Matt Steinberg provided

the pitching.

Angels 10, Yankees 7 - After jumping out to a 4-0 lead, the Angels

fell behind, 7-6, before rallying late to win.

Andrew Mason had three hits and scored two runs to pace the Angels’

attack. Parker Stone, Taylor Stone and Conner Bannon each had two hits,

while Guy Sutherland walked twice, stole six bases and scored two runs.

Kolfax Selby and Max Voettner each had key hits, while Alex Shafnitz

and Eric Mutzke drew walks.

Bannon and Parker Stone limited the Yankees to three runs over the

first four innings.

Max Frisbee led the Yankees’ offense with a hit and three runs scored,

while Ryan Spitzer, Chase Ross, Charlie McAuliffe and Andrew Watt each

had a hit and a run scored.

Cardinals 20, Mariners 6 - Matt Fay had a three-run triple, Camden

Nicholson added a home run, Jake Kellian had a double and Kevin Tsau

knocked in two runs to lead the Cardinals over the Mariners.

Michael Epstein ran the bases well, while strong defense was provided

by Bret Weinberger and Doug Kelley.

In AA Division action:

Mariners 10, Mets 4 - John Christian’s grand slam helped propel the

Mariners past the Mets.

Matt Ruiz added a two-run home run, while Mitch Gardner came through

with a run-scoring single.

Gardner, Christian, Alex Mainthow and Doug Watt each pitched well for

the Mariners.

The Mets were led by defensive standouts Ryan Hueston and Jack Cooper.

Dodgers 11, Braves 1 - The Dodgers pitching duo of Kyle Danese and

Nick Flamson combined to toss a no-hitter to defeat the Braves.

In four innings of work, the duo combined for seven strikeouts.

The Dodgers’ defense was sparked by Chris Burke, Jarrett Logan, Karl

Fletcher and Carter Taylor, while Gustaf Hellmer, David Weiland and

Francesco Impagliazzo combined for six runs scored.

The Braves had good defense, with Michael Franklin, Andrew Iverson,

Conner Gaughen, Stephen Grant and Michael Delahanty leading the way.

Red Sox 18, Cardinals 4 - Weston Nielsen clubbed a home run, while

Blake Thomsen tripled to lead the Red Sox offense.

Brennan Anderson, Parker Werline, Will Morrow, Josh Harrison, Jackie

Anderson and Peter Parkel came through with key hits, while Andrew Conger

added two RBIs for the Sox.

Catcher J.B. Salem played strong defense, while pitchers Parker

Werline (six strikeouts), Harrison and Thomsen kept the Cardinals at bay.
