Marlins power past Dodgers, Devil Rays

The Marlins won two games last weekend in Fountain Valley Little

League Majors Division play, blanking the Dodgers, 16-0, and beating the

Devil Rays, 8-4, at Mile Square Park.

The Marlins used a 16-hit attack to defeat the Dodgers, getting four

hits from Jordan Brown, three by Cameron Hammer, a double and single by

Nick McIsaac and Jeff Spirk, a tripled by Zach Moore, and a double by

Bobby Johnson.

Against the Devil Rays, Brown singled, tripled and scored three runs,

Moore went 3 for 3, and Spirk doubled twice. Les Obie, Billy Bintner,

Jake Rear, Daisuke Nishikawa and Kevin Smisko all singled for the Devil

Rays.

IN OTHER GAMES:

* Mariners 9, Yankees 4

Ryan Buckles doubled and Garrett James and Robert Souders teamed on a

double play to squelch a fifth inning rally by the Yankees to lead the

Mariners. Matt James singled twice and drove in all four runs, and Matt

Fink singled twice to lead the Yankees. The Mariners also beat the

Cardinals, 3-2, behind a two-RBI single by Justin Maddux, and an RBI

single by Cale Hill.

* Cardinals 11, Dodgers 0

Ricky Rea and Grant Furuya each singled twice and Brian Faust and

Andrew Bender produced doubles for the Cardinals, and Furuya also pitched

a complete game victory, getting nine strikeouts without a walk. Joel

Stanton singled for the Dodgers.

* Yankees 4, Devil Rays 3

Jeff Mitchell delivered a two-RBI double, Matt James hit a two-RBI

single, and Robert Johnson struck out nine in six innings to power the

Yankees. Alex Moreno had an RBI single and Les Obie singled and scored

twice for the Devil Rays.

MINOR A DIVISION

* Mariners 7, Dodgers 6

Ray Strazzula and Niles Marquez both singled, Robert Reynolds scored

twice, and Adrian Gomez, Taylor Wilson and Brenton McCarthy turned a

double play for the Mariners. Joshua Troche singled and doubled to lead

the Dodgers.

* Mets 9, Diamondbacks 4

Jerry Lewis, Trever Calhoon and Mike Garcia each had two hits for the

Mets, who pounded out 12 hits and scored in every inning. Jordan

Fernandez doubled for the Diamondbacks.

* Cardinals 9, Diamondbacks 6

Michael Elmore hit a double and the Cardinals had eight different

players score in the victory. Kyle Meyers had a three-RBI triple for the

Diamondbacks.

* Mariners 12, Yankees 6

Brenton McCarthy went 3 for 3 with a double, Adrian Gomez tripled, Joe

Peters doubled, and Dillon Auxier singled and scored twice to lead the

Mariners. Mike Delicce doubled and Sara Mitchell singled for the Yankees.

MINOR B DIVISION

* Cardinals 19, Yankees 15

James Hong hit a home run and triple, Joshua Garcia also had a home

run, and Alec Jones went 3 for 3 to help get the Cardinals past the

Yankees. Ryan Strachon scored three runs for the Yankees.

* Mariners 12, Dodgers 9

John Harris homered for the Mariners; Ryan Silva tripled and Michael

Ackel scored three runs for the Dodgers.

* Brewers 13, Pirates 7

Shelby Fischer doubled for the Brewers; Tony Frens singled twice for

the Pirates.

* Marlins 16, Devil Rays 15

RJ Brownfield went 3 for 3 and Zach Malloy doubled twice to lead the

Marlins; Bobby Kunkel doubled for the Devil Rays.
