You’ve come a long way -- babies!

For nearly 30 years, the Ocean View Little League has sponsored

organized teams mainly for boys -- 90% of their teams are made up of

them. And now, after years of the boys and girls playing together, the

league has found its own “diamonds in the rough.”

In February, the league’s first all-girls’ T-ball team was organized

when Jeff Forsberg, who was active with the Little League, signed up his

5-year-old daughter to play. She in turn brought a few friends along for

the fun.

The idea was born, and it has been successful ever since.

The 15-member squad has already played about a half-dozen games this

year and the support for the team is overwhelming.

But in a society where organized sports for women have been around for

more than 100 years, waiting until the 21st century to have an organized

girls’ T-ball team seems a little late to us.

But better late than never, right?

We tip our hats to the members of the first ever, all-girls’ Ocean

View Little League T-ball team -- the Diamondbacks -- Megan Shepley,

Jenna Peterson, Rylee Nelson, Lauren Carr, Claire Campregher, Marisa

Doran, Jenni Rulon, Regan Shaver, Melanie Knox, Anna Day, Amanda Kahn,

Kelly Nelson, Ally Forsberg, Sara Christie and Alexandra Coultrup.
