Fountain Valley Mayor Larry Crandall will host a mayor’s breakfast

from 8 to 9 a.m. on April 25 at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital’s

Saltzer Conference Room, 17100 Euclid St.

This month’s speaker will be newspaper editorial writer Steven

Greenhut discussing “Ethics in Journalism.” He will discuss the ethical

issues of redevelopment abuse, property rights and housing in his daily

editorials and columns.

Red Cross lifeguard training course set

The Green Valley Homeowners Recreation Assn. will host an American Red

Cross Lifeguard Training Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to April 19

at the family clubhouse facility at 10739 Los Jardines West, Fountain

Valley.

Applicants must be at least 15 years of old, be able to swim 500

yards, tread water for two minutes and retrieve a 10-pound weight from 7

feet of water.

Cost is $100 and includes first aid, CPR and lifeguard training

Hilton plans Easter brunch, egg hunts

The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach will hold its

Easter Sunday Brunch at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 21100 Pacific Coast Highway.

Easter Sunday Brunch will include eggs benedict, omelet/waffle and

salad stations, a sushi bar and assorted breads, cheeses, vegetables,

fruits and desserts.

There also will be two Easter egg hunts at 11 a.m. for children age 3

to 5 and another hunt at 11:30 a.m. for children age 6 to 10.

Cost is $39.95 per adult and $14.95 per child.

Shabbat service on tap at B’nai Tzedek

Congregation B’nai Tzedek of Fountain Valley will conduct a special

Shabbat Service to coincide with the seventh day of Passover at 8:15 p.m.

Friday.

The service will include Pesach prayers and Yizkor service to remember

loved ones who have died.

Group to observe Day of Prayer

The Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council will observe National

Day of Prayer with Prayer Breakfast 2001 at 7:30 a.m. on May 3 at St.

Bonaventure Catholic Church, 16400 Springdale St., Huntington Beach.

The breakfast will encourage participants to discuss personal issues

in dialogue circles that will be formed. Each circle will appoint a

participant to facilitate the session, create key points discussed and

report back to larger gathering.

Five prayer leaders representing diverse faith communities in

Huntington Beach will offer prayers of praise and thanksgiving.

Cost is $10, and tickets will be available at the church door on May

Mother’s Club plans charity luncheon

The Huntington Beach Mother’s Club will hold their annual Mother’s Day

Luncheon and Charity Auction on April 21.

Club officials said the Guild for Infant Survival will be the

recipient of funds raised by a silent auction and raffle at this event.

The GIS is an Orange County charity that is dedicated to saving infant

lives by helping eradicate the tragedy of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

through personal service, public information and medical research.

It is the only Orange County organization dedicated to fighting SIDS

and has been instrumental in getting the “Back to Sleep” message out to

county residents.

The club is seeking contributions for both the raffle and the silent

auction at the luncheon. Prizes and auction items also will be displayed

with the contributor’s name clearly displayed. Individuals or businesses

Arthritis group seeks marathon participants

The Arthritis Foundation of Orange County will be recruiting people

throughout the month of May to join its Joints in Motion Training Team to

run or walk in the Dublin Marathon on Oct. 29.

Participants must collect $4,400 in pledges to benefit the Arthritis

Foundation’s mission. The money will cover a 20-week marathon-training

program, marathon entry fee and round-trip air fare to Dublin, Ireland,

including accommodations.
