Mets pull away from Dodgers, 6-2

Jon Grothe came up with a two-RBI double in the third inning to break

a 1-1 tie, and the Mets went on to beat the Dodgers, 6-2, in Ocean View

Little League Majors Division action over the weekend.

Grothe, who also pitched the first three innings with five strikeouts,

also came up with an RBI single during a three-run fourth inning by the

Mets.

Tyler Song had an RBI single and John Tomasek and Brian Williams each

singled to lead the Dodgers.

IN OTHER GAMES:

* A’s 5, Yankees 2

The A’s also rallied for this win, scoring three runs in the fourth

inning, keyed by Randy Guite’s leadoff double and Steven Martinez’s

two-RBI single. The A’s also received strong pitching from Nick Orendorff

and Scott Baxter, each of whom threw three innings.

The Yankees got two hits from Adrian Conger, and three innings of

solid pitching from Brian Roberts.

* Yankees 9, Dodgers 2

The Yankees’ hitting parade was paced by Joseph Park with two doubles

among three hits, Anthony Peralta with three hits and Adrian Conger with

two hits. Charlie Park, Brian Roberts and Park shared pitching duties and

limited the Dodgers to two runs.

The Dodgers got base hits from Drew Gerardi and Michael Patriarca.

* Mets 3, A’s 2

This pitching duel featured the Mets’ Troy Davis and Scott Melchert,

against the A’s Nick Orendorff and Scott Baxter. Davis gave up two runs

on one hit and two walks, and also struck out five in four innings to get

the win. Melchert recorded the save, striking out four while giving up

two hits. Orendorff, meanwhile, struck out five in three innings, and

Baxter fanned six and gave up one hit in relief.

The Mets trailed 1-0, but key hits by Garrett Shin and Melchert (two

hits overall) keyed a three-run third inning. Davis had a hit, Patrick

Daugherty had an RBI double and Michael Cherf doubled for the Mets.

Orendorff also had a double and run scored, and Baxter doubled for the

A’s.

MINOR B DIVISION

* Dodgers 13, Reds 12

The Dodgers trailed 8-0 in the first inning, but stormed back to

squeeze out the victory, with Nick Smith delivering the game-winning RBI

in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jack Bennett hit an inside-the-park

home run in the third inning, Trenton Schamel went 3 for 3 with two RBIs

and scored the winning run, Jason Fernandez had three hits, Jacob Pascoe

had two hits, Mark Johnson doubled and had two RBIs, Sean Rubino had two

hits and two RBIs, and Jacob Frazier walked twice and scored two runs for

the Dodgers. Johnson and Rubino both pitched, getting seven and four

strikeouts, respectively.
