SCHOOL DISTRICT WRAP-UPS

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board selected Leadership Associates to conduct the search for a

new superintendent.

WHAT IT MEANS:

After 10 years, Supt. Duane Dishno will retire in July.

Leadership Associates was the organization used to search for and

select Dishno when he came to the district in 1991. The estimated cost is

$21,950.

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved the spending plans for the 2000-2001 school site

block grants and Governor’s Performance Awards.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Each of the 10 schools will receive sums between $11,819 and $74,464.

The schools have different spending plans for the one-time money that

include safety improvements, site improvements, playground equipment,

computers and technology equipment, televisions, VCRs and other

educational materials.

The Huntington Beach City School District board will meet at 7 p.m.

May 1 at the district office, 20451 Craimer Lane, Huntington Beach.

HUNTINGTON BEACH UNION HIGH SCHOOL

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved an amendment to the joint agreement with the city

of Huntington Beach for a pool at Huntington Beach High School.

WHAT IT MEANS:

A portion of the pool building cost will be paid for by a loan from

the city. The loan will be paid back over 10 years by having the city’s

share of the maintenance cost reduced.

The city asked that the district specify that funds for the repayment

of the loan be set aside in the reserve fund.

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved further planning for the joint maintenance,

operations and transportation department.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The district will share expenditures with Huntington Beach City and

Fountain Valley school districts for the joint maintenance, operations

and transportation department.

NEXT MEETING

The Huntington Beach Union High School District will meet at 7:30 p.m.

May 8 in the district office at 10251 Yorktown Ave., Huntington Beach.

OCEAN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved an agreement with the district, the city of

Huntington Beach and Continuing Development Incorporated, a California

nonprofit corporation, for the operation of a child development program

at Oak View School.

WHAT IT MEANS:

In December, the Orange County Department of Education ceased

operating 13 child development centers after 25 years of service.

Continuing Development Inc. was selected to assume responsibility for

the child development center at Oak View beginning in December.

The district and the city will each continue their same duties.

Vote: 4-0-1, trustee Pam Ogdon abstained

IN FAVOR

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved the selection of Geotechnical Professionals Inc.

for investigation and design reports for four middle school

gymnasium/auditoriums.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The geological evaluation is required by environmental consultants and

the Division of the State Architect for the gym projects at Mesa View,

Marine View, Spring View and Village View middle schools.

The $26,800 cost of the services will be paid from the special reserve

fund.

NEXT MEETING

The Ocean View School District board will meet at 7 p.m. May 1 in the

district office at 17200 Pinehurst Lane, Huntington Beach.
