VISALIA - The Orange Coast College baseball team suffered its first

loss in two years in the Sequoias Tournament, but the Pirates still

finished Thursday with one win.

OCC (22-9) defeated Reedley, 10-1, early in the day as freshman Scott

Beerer, a Newport Harbor High product, played all nine positions. Pirates

Chris Sinner and Glenn Hedgepth ripped a double each as freshman

left-handed pitcher Eric Estrada earned his first win of the season.

In the second tourney game, Coast built a 4-0 lead, but later had to

rally and failed when the Pirates lost, 10-9, to Long Beach City. Pirates

freshman Greg Trimble smacked two doubles, while Jake Garcia and Brian

Murphy blasted one each.

OCC will continue tourney play today at 2 p.m. against host College of
