Artist Tony Delap created the mixed-media work, “The Conjurian,” that

graces the program cover for Arts Orange County’s second annual Orange

County Arts Awards. The gala, which will take place in Newport Beach on

Thursday, will honor outstanding work by both local individuals and

organizations.

Annual awards will be given out in the categories of outstanding arts

organization, artist, patron, volunteer and educator.

Also handed out will be the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Awards.

STOP-GAP theater company founders Don Laffoon and Victoria Bryan will be

honored as artistic visionaries; animator Chuck Jones will be given the

artist legacy award; and The Harry and Grace Steele Foundation will share

the community visionaries award with Mary M. Muth.

South Coast Repertory co-founder David Emmes will host the awards with

KOCE-TV’s Maria Hall Brown.

Arts Orange County is a nonprofit, countywide arts council.

Human Genome Project to be lecture subject

DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS LECTURE SERIES

Gregory Stock, director of the program on medicine, technology and

society at UCLA Medical School, will talk Friday and Saturday about the

Human Genome Project and its implications about our future as part of the

4th Annual Martin W. Witte Distinguished Speakers Lecture Series at the

Newport Beach Central Library.
